Did you know “The devil is in the detail” is an idiom that refers to a catch or a mysterious hidden element?

In construction when you engage a Professional to prepare construction drawings for a Building Control Application, or for your builder to construct it’s crucial that there’s no hidden elements! There should always be details produced, for your builder to follow in addition to the usual plans and Elevations expected.

Without full details your builder will be assuming things, building even the smallest extension might appear simple at first but that’s not the case, it’s important to be aware of the regulations and in particular:

  • Damp proofing – nobody wants a beautiful new space only to discover damp walls or ceilings.

  • Insulation continuity – to keep us warm and also importantly reduce heating bills.

  • Stability – Cavity walls for instance need to be tied securely together, the floors and roof require restraint and movement joints incorporated to reduce cracking.

  • Aesthetics – Proper detailing will ensure your project will look great!
