Hooray for Hollywood! 🥳🎉🤩

Updated: Aug 29, 2023

Did anyone stay up to watch the Oscars recently? Terrific that our very own "An Irish Goodbye" won an Oscar! I was also hoping that The Banshees of Inisherin would win but alas it wasn't to be, such a brilliant movie though, a winner to me.

Well here's my latest little scheme in Holywood, County Down. It wont win any awards either I know for sure but if my clients are delighted with their extension then that will be enough of a reward for me.

They say beautiful things come in small packages and this little extension will be delightful featuring Shou Sugi Ban charred timber cladding and a Vario by Velux flat glass rooflight it will surely be a little treasure.

So what is Shou Sugi Ban?

Shui Shou Ban Cladding (Charred timber)

It's charred timber cladding, a modern application of the ancient Japanese art of charring timber to provide a beautiful and long lasting cladding.

While Shou Sugi Ban originated in Japan in the 18th century primarily as a way to treat cedar siding to make it weatherproof, the technique which involves charring a wood surface to render it a deep charcoal black has caught on recently as a treatment for contemporary exteriors and indoor furnishings alike. You can even find variations elevated to fine art.

So what is a Vario by Velux Rooflight?

This is a recent product from Velux which is elegant, custom-made and brings natural daylight and fresh air indoors. Backed with 80 years of expertise combined with contemporary functional design, resulting in seamless sweeping views of the skies above.

Thanks for taking the time to read my latest blog, appreciated. If you have a project you would like to discuss please feel free to give me a call or drop me an email.
